Overall, the Advanced Practice teacher training was a tremendous growth experience for me, both physically (increased strength & flexibility) and mentally (improved confidence, courage & knowledge). I had reached a point in my personal practice where I was no longer progressing by going to group classes and wanted to learn how to take my practice to the next level. Additionally, I was interested in teaching professionally and wanted to get some experience to see if I would enjoy it and to see if I had the aptitude for it. I was pleased with the variety of postures we focused on throughout the course and the three hour class duration provided the opportunity to really open my body and try more challenging poses. This, coupled with the personal assistance given by the instructors and the knowledge I gained of the muscular anatomy helped me to learn not just which muscles to engage/relax when doing challenging postures, but also how to properly warm up the body and which neutralizing movements and counter-poses to do in order to prevent injury. I found the manuals to be extremely informative. They were instrumental during the course and will serve as an ongoing reference for my personal practice. The photographic sequence for the Warm Up and Steps provided a great visual guide to achieving certain postures and the related text helped to increase my knowledge of the anatomy involved with each pose, as well as the health benefits. As for the supplemental sections, Rope yoga was particularly useful in order to learn how to safely use the props to open the body and practicing the Kriyas was a great experience that seems important for anyone who wants to teach. Partner yoga was fun and probably good for future teachers to be aware of the practice, but I did not find it to be critical and would prefer to work on more individual poses, if I were to do the course over again. Minor suggestions for improvement include: highlighting which of the warm up poses is the eligibility pose, in the text you could suggest a counter pose, highlight risk of injury and add what the main challenge of the pose is, lastly page numbers would be great to save time in class. During the training my greatest challenge, as well as my greatest area of growth, came during the teaching exercises. I appreciated learning more about the anatomy for specific postures, which translated into a better understanding of how to get into the poses myself, as well as how to articulate to someone else how to do so. I was grateful for all the opportunities given throughout the course to practice assisting one another. Personally, I was nervous to lead the class and appreciated that we were eased into the experience over the three modules, starting with leading the chanting, teaching warm up, teaching two poses and ending by running 1/3 of a class. As someone interested in teaching, the more opportunities to practice, the better, if not to get over my nerves on the mat, then to figure out how to put together a comprehensive sequence for a full class. I know time is limited during the actual course, so Ive welcomed the opportunity to work with the Andiappan community. It has provided invaluable exposure to students and has allowed me to find my own voice and become more comfortable with my teaching style. The Teaching Methodology handout has been a helpful resource, providing general instructions on how to conduct oneself as a teacher and a detailed framework for how to structure a class. If you were able to expand on it and offer some sample sequences for classes that focused on back bending, forward bending, shoulders and upper back, hip and hamstring opening or inversions, Im sure future students would appreciate. Lastly, the single greatest value of the course came from Master Yogananth Andiappan. His personal practice is an inspiration and his guidance, wisdom and humility made him, as well as the advanced yoga postures, wholly accessible. I had complete confidence in his knowledge and ability to adjust me in such a way as to get into poses that seemed beyond my reach. Thank you for providing such an amazing experience.

The more the course get into the details of yoga studying, the more there is to explore and learn. I really enjoyed this 2-month training at the Anahata Yoga Studio. I think I discovered the world of yoga and its link with the Indian culture. I believe that I improved my practical skills. Below is my feedback and learning experience: I have been practicing yoga since 2011 and suffered from low back pain for several years. I want to learn the correct alignment from yoga so that I took the 200hrs YTT at Anahata Yoga. From this course, I have deeply understood about many information of yoga anatomy, physiology, history, pranayama, mudra and asana. From the 30 hours group class practice, the back care class which were conducted by Master Vishnu, Nirmal and Mahesh were a great help to me. It was an amazing experience, learning so much every single day of the Yoga Teacher Training Course from knowledgeable masters with a lifetime of experience. Learning at such a pleasant atmosphere, from an authentic source about both the theory and history of yoga was fascinating. As for the practical part, getting very hands-on instruction was great. I felt myself improve in my practice after the course. Despite having to work full-time during the course, with a busy schedule, the early mornings and late nights during the period of the course was worth it. Although I have practised yoga for almost ten years, I have never experienced such an in-depth self-transformation as what I learned from yoga masters in the Anahata Yoga school. All yoga masters teaches my classmates and I with enthusiasm. They will answer what we queries and interested patiently during class or even after class in order to ensure we understand well. What I learned from the training is all individuals are unique physically and mentally. We should respect the uniqueness during the yoga practice. Hence, we shall never compare oneself with others. Try our best. We sometimes shall accept our limitation and let go if we have already do our best. I am delighted to meet professional yoga masters and supporting classmates during training course. Ending of this 200-hour training course marks the beginning of my next step of yoga journey. The 200hr Yoga Teacher Training at Anahata was an experience that is truly enriching. During the first month that we discussed all theories, Masters Vishnu and Anurag both were very patient in explaining all the basic theories. After which, we discussed body anatomy, history of yoga, types of yoga, yogic literature, styles of yoga, the 8 limbs of Ashtanga yoga, pranayama, kriyas, mudras and bandas. We also discussed teaching techniques which was very helpful if we are to teach beginners yoga straight after the course. These information learned from all the theory classes are very helpful in attaining a deeper knowledge on my practice, but what I enjoyed learning about most were the different types of asanas, and how to teach them, from Master Yogananth. He was very patient in going through each asana in the module, having us do it first, and then teaching us how to teach the asana effectively to others. This module was also the main chunk of the course. Now that the course is finished, I am so thankful that I decided to finally go ahead with the course. I now have a holistic view of yoga, that it is indeed a way of life. My practice will never be the same again, as from before I started the course. I now view yoga as something that is part of me, a way of living that does not just deal with fitness or physical health, but also mental and spiritual health too. I would like to especially thank our teachers, Master Vishnu, Master Anurag- for being ever so patient with your teaching, and for sharing with us your stories, personal experiences, connecting with us and answering all our questions. And also to Master Mahesh, for helping out whenever he could. I enjoy his classes very much too. I would also like to give Master Yogananth the biggest thank you, because without his patience, and his contagious passion for yoga, this course would not have been so successful. Master Yogananth and his kindness of heart, lightness of being and sincere love for others, has really made me develop a deeper love for yoga. I will be recommending this course to other friends and family, and might even take another course in Anahata Yoga, HK. Truly worth it!

I joined the 4-month 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course at Anahata yoga with the aim to enrich my personal knowledge: to learn the philosophy of yoga its relation with human anatomy as well as proper teaching technique to prepare myself for my interest outside of regular work. Overall, I was satisfied with the teachers quality and course content. The different modules of the course set a proper foundation for new yoga teachers. The practical modules also helped us understand our own anatomy and limitations and how to work around them. The teachers are very knowledgeable in their subjects and tried their best to answer all our inquiries even after class hours. I signed up this course to deepen my own practice and to develop my body and mind prior to leaving Hong Kong. Now I am so pleased that I decided to take my YTT with Anahata Yoga in this time. Thank you so much for one of the best experiences ever. I know “life changing” can be used often, but I really feel it has been for me now. I can honestly say I learned a lot there, and enjoyed the time I spent during the training, group lessons and “Andiappan Yoga” practices. I would highly recommend this course to friends and I am even considering returning in a few years for the advanced teacher training. Towards the second week and into the third week, I really started feeling wonderful, joyful and being positive on practicing in any teachers group lessons and “Andiappan Yoga” classes. Learning yoga philosophy was also a great experience for me. It brought me a change with a deeper understanding of yoga and life itself. All teachers will be part of me forever. Master Yogananth with his great guidance on asana practice, Master Vishnu with his amazing knowledge and enthusiasm on teaching and healing people, Master Anurag, incredible yoga teacher with an incredible voice, soul and energy. The Anahata 200-hours Yoga Teacher Training Certificate Course has deepened my understanding of yoga. The yoga masters who teach the course are impressive with their commitment to a yogic lifestyle and their vast knowledge. Throughout the teaching, the yoga masters shared how yoga can help with different physical ailments and disease. I had already learnt about the ‘energy’ flow of Chakras and the importance of diet in yoga but this was my first introduction into learning Yoga through Yoga anatomy and developing an understanding of how asanas and pranayama work with the muscles, bones and joints. I began to understand poses in terms of strengthening and stretching muscles, working with the body and understanding the differences in lateral stretches, lengthening, twisting and rotations, for example. I learnt the importance of sequencing asanas to work with the body and with the movement of air. I have always preferred the active meditation and flow of breathe, I find in the sequence of asanas. Yet, during this course I have understood the fundamental role of pranayama, mudra, bandha and kriya in ones practice. I also have a renewed sense for mediation. I found the assignments not only a great opportunity to reflect on what I had indeed learnt from the course but also to continue to deepen my understanding.

The idea and the determination of being a yoga teacher have begun since April of this year. Sharing my experience, helping others and bringing positivity to people around me is how I would like my job or myself to be like. This 3-month yoga teacher training was an incredible experience and helped me build a basic foundation for my teaching journey. Not only learning the human anatomy, asanas and yoga philosophy, I have also learnt to be humble and open-minded to understand and learn various limbs and styles of yoga. This attitude can also be applied to daily life and makes me more acceptant to things happen in life. Yoga knowledge is as great as ocean. I used to be a person who needs to follow solid rules and guidelines so as to gain the sense of security. After these few months, I am more capable of following the nature call and my heart. There is an unforgettable saying taught by Master Anurag regarding the control over emotions, “I am capable of anger but anger does not control me”. Being emotional has been one of my “weaknesses”. Yoga does make me a calmer person and my emotions have become more manageable. I would further develop this saying into “I am capable of different emotions, but they do not control me”. I hope I could help those who are emotional and sensitive to gain a more peaceful state of mind and bring awareness to their own senses and thoughts.
