As the practice of yoga has evolved over time, the fundamental focus on holistic mind-body health remains at its core. At Anahata Yoga, we believe in making yoga accessible to individuals of all ages, emphasizing the therapeutic aspects that support a healthy lifestyle.
In a landscape where yoga has become increasingly commercialized, it's crucial to understand that the use of props and equipment in classes is often aimed at adding novelty rather than enhancing the essence of the practice. While we value the role of props as tools in yoga, relying on them excessively can deviate from the true spirit of yoga.
Consider the analogy of using a walking aid when injured. Just as one would gradually phase out the aid as they regain strength, in yoga, props are initially introduced to assist practitioners and should be gradually minimized as proficiency develops. This approach fosters a consistent and sustainable practice, allowing individuals to harness their innate abilities for practice and reap the full benefits of yoga.
We provide props in our classes to support individuals whose practice necessitates modifications or specific variations to accommodate their limitations. We also offer workshops and teacher training sessions to educate students on mindful prop usage tailored to individual limitations
While we do not oppose the use of props, designing entire classes around them as a central selling point may detract from the authentic teaching of yoga and potentially lead to injuries from improper use. Our commitment lies in upholding the traditional principles of yoga, ensuring a safe and enriching practice that aligns with the true essence of this ancient discipline.
As most of our classes are therapeutic in nature, these classes are also suitable for pregnant women.
